We are thrilled to announce the completion of the evaluation process for our first funding call, which closed on January 19th. From an impressive pool of over 80 applications spanning 19 countries, 11 projects have been selected, committed to advancing ocean and freshwater literacy. These projects, distinguished by their innovative approaches and potential for significant impact, are split across two key themes: ocean and inland/fresh waters. Collectively, they have been awarded a total funding of 87,500 euros.

The selected projects, led by schools from Romania, Spain, the United Kingdom, Sweden, France, and Estonia, showcase diverse initiatives—from creating marine shelters and Posidonia meadows to navigating ocean literacy for a sustainable tomorrow. With its unique focus, each project promises to contribute substantially to our understanding and conservation of aquatic ecosystems. These initiatives will kick off on April 1st and run for up to 11 months, embodying our mission to integrate ocean and water topics into the educational discourse.

More than 15 experts contributed to the meticulous evaluation process, ensuring each application was given thoughtful consideration. Feedback has been provided to all schools that were not selected this round, with the encouragement to refine and reapply for our second call, which remains open until April 30th.

We urge all applicants to also apply to become Blue Schools and integrate the Network of European Blue Schools, a recognition of excellence in water and ocean literacy education.

Together, let’s continue to make waves in environmental education!
