At ProBleu, collaboration is key to fostering ocean and water literacy. By working with global and local organisations, we expand our reach and create meaningful initiatives that connect communities with aquatic ecosystems. These partnerships help us develop the Network of European Blue Schools, citizen science projects, educational materials on our Resource Catalogue and advocacy efforts that inspire action across Europe and beyond.

By joining forces with European-related projects, school networks, NGOs, research institutions, and local groups, we ensure that ocean and water awareness is not just a global goal but a reality in everyday life.

Also, our vibrant network of local languages ambassadors donates their time and local language skills to promote ocean and water literacy within their communities. Discover them on our social networks!

BlueLightS

Sister Project – EU Mission “Restore Ocean and Waters”

https://blue-lights.eu/

BlueLightS aims at strengthening the skills and competencies of European children and youth to deliver “blue” (river and seas) resilience and sustainability. We will do so by supporting exciting co-built blue challenge projects in schools; facilitating a conversation at different scales between the “blue” and education communities; and, experimenting adaptions in education systems that raise attention given to rivers and seas. It is a challenging project but inspiring and essential for the long-term success of the EU Mission ‘Restore our ocean and waters by 2030’.

Pharos Project

Related Project – EU Mission “Restore Ocean and Waters”

PHAROS is an EU-funded project, led by the Canary Islands Ocean Platform (PLOCAN), and implemented by a consortium of 24 organizations from September 2024 to August 2029, which aims to provide nature-based solutions for restoring ecosystems and biodiversity while tackling climate change and human impacts in the Atlantic and Arctic maritime regions. These goals align with the European Union’s ambitious Ocean Mission objectives.

Funded by nearly 9.5 million euros in European funds, the PHAROS project aligns with the European Union’s Ocean Mission. This mission focuses on protecting and restoring marine ecosystems and biodiversity, eliminating pollution, and achieving a sustainable, carbon-neutral, and circular blue economy by 2030.

Otters Project

Restore Ocean and Waters” Project

OTTERS views citizen science as an excellent tool for fostering citizen engagement and stewardship of the natural environment, including the marine and freshwater domains. To achieve its mission successfully, OTTERS aims to help citizen science in establishing standardise methods of collecting data in line with policy and scientific objectives and standards as well as overcome institutional and ethical challenges. The OTTERS Project will assess the effectiveness of citizen science for research and innovation and examine the impact of citizen science campaigns on citizen behaviour and their epistemic relation with marine and freshwater environments.

In support of the Mission ‘Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030’, the OTTERS project  has officially endorsed the Mission Charter.

Blue Mission Med

Restore Ocean and Waters Mission

The BlueMissionMed Coordination and Support Action (CSA) will design, structure and support a well-functioning basin scale innovation ecosystem, ensuring fast progress towards the achievement of Mission “Restore Our Oceans and Waters by 2030” objectives and important impact on the society.

The project builds on, connect and structure existing initiatives and activities to disseminate and upscale solutions and mobilise relevant actors with the specific aim of addressing the Objective 2 of the Mission, namely “prevent and eliminate pollution of our ocean, seas and waters”.

BlueMissionMed will engage stakeholders from Policy, Business, Research&Innovation and Civil Society, as well as the so-called Ecosystem Enablers to synergize the actions of the Mission Lighthouse in the Mediterranean basin.

BiodivOcean

Related project

BiodivOcean is an Erasmus+ project promoting ocean literacy and marine biodiversity awareness through education and citizen science. By co-creating educational resources and communication strategies, the project highlights the importance of marine biodiversity and its threats. It fosters learning and skill-building within education communities, empowering educators and students to engage with ocean-related challenges in formal and non-formal education settings.

Powered by the VIRTUE project, BiodivOcean integrates hands-on and digital learning models to enhance professional development, training, and outreach programs focused on marine biodiversity. The project seeks an inclusive reach by fostering knowledge transfer and strengthening synergies among international partners and education networks. Through collaboration between scientists, educators, and communities, BiodivOcean contributes to a more informed society committed to ocean conservation.

Healthy Seas

Related project

Healthy Seas is a foundation based in the Netherlands whose mission is to remove marine litter from the seas, particularly fishing nets, create healthier seas, and recycle marine litter into textile products with the help of our partners. We operate worldwide (from the US to Korea and New Zealand), and our funding comes from business partners. Since its founding in 2013, Healthy Seas has collected over 1,228 tons of fishing nets and other marine litter with the help of volunteer divers and fishers. Beyond cleanup, our pillars encompass prevention and education. Through our education programmes, we strive to make a positive and long-lasting impact on the marine environment and the development of society by bringing the ocean closer to everyone.

World Ocean Day for Schools

Related project

World Ocean Day for Schools provides educators with the inspiration, resources & activities to engage their students in a more meaningful conversation about the ocean & climate change. Since its launch in 2018, World Ocean Day for Schools has focused on increasing ocean literacy in schools. We’ve evolved from a small-scale event with 400 schools to an interactive online festival with over 100k users.

This year 2025, we’re thrilled to launch the Ocean Decade Challenge for Schools — a brand new, interactive card game designed to bring the UN Ocean Decade Challenges to life for young people. Perfect for in and out of the classroom, the deck invites students to explore real-world ocean, river, and lake issues through creativity, enquiry-based learning, and teamwork. By engaging with scenarios rooted in marine pollution, climate resilience, and ocean equity, students develop critical thinking and collaboration skills while discovering how their unique strengths can contribute to ocean solutions. With no screens, no prep, and alignment to values-led and systems thinking approaches, this flexible, inclusive resource builds both ocean literacy and self-efficacy, making it a powerful addition to any school’s toolkit, especially on World Ocean Day.
