SEAFans: Science, Environment and Arts on the Ocean
Barcelona, Spain
2nd FUNDING CALL
SEAFans project aims to establish a deep connection between students and the ocean. This initiative integrates ocean literacy into the curriculum, emphasizing local marine environments and linking them with forest school activities.
The SEAFans project involves various multidisciplinary activities:
- Snorkel Tours and Field Trips: Exploring local underwater biodiversity and coastal marine ecosystems in Sitges and l’Ametlla de Mar.
- Marine Biodiversity Studies: Researching local aquatic species and their habitats and monitoring environmental parameters.
- Creative and Educational Activities: Hosting art exhibitions, debates, and simulated immersions to raise awareness about marine conservation.
- Sustainable Practices: Workshops on responsible fishing and fish consumption and participation in environmental clean-up days.
- Community Engagement: Involving families and local communities through events like World Ocean Day celebrations and sports trips to the beach.
The project will directly engage approximately 200 students and 13 teachers, with the entire school community participating in various activities. SEAFans aims to inspire a long-lasting, positive relationship with the ocean, promoting sustainable practices and fostering intergenerational solidarity. By sharing experiences and collaborating with other schools and local entities, Escola Galí Bellesguard seeks to broaden the project’s impact and encourage wider community involvement in ocean conservation efforts.
