ICM-CSIC recently collaborated with the American University of Armenia through our sister project, OTTERS, in a series of events dedicated to citizen science and Blue Schools. This initiative, funded by the Spanish Embassy in Armenia, aimed to inspire and equip educators and students to engage with water literacy and environmental monitoring projects.

One of the highlights took place in Gavar, near Lake Sevan, where 46 secondary school teachers from rural areas gathered to learn about the Blue Schools certification process and ProBleu funding opportunities. They explored how to design projects aligned with citizen science, using tools like the MINKA platform to monitor Lake Sevan and its tributaries collaboratively. Teachers and students participated in hands-on demonstrations of scientific tools, enhancing their ability to integrate environmental monitoring into their classrooms.

The event also fostered dialogue between educators, researchers, and students, emphasising the role of citizen science in promoting water literacy. Participants exchanged ideas and examples of successful projects, drawing inspiration to create initiatives tailored to their local contexts. By connecting schools with practical tools and a network of like-minded educators, this collaboration strengthened the foundation for impactful water literacy projects in Armenia.
