Study of the impact and consequences of the increased temperature of maritime and continental waters on the Arousa estuary

“Fervedoiro” project aims to analyze the risks and consequences of rising water temperatures on the local environment, landscape, and community. As a fishing village, Rianxo’s economy heavily depends on the sea, making this project crucial for its future sustainability.

The Fervedoiro project encompasses several objectives:

  1. Local Ecosystem Study: Students will study and analyze the local landscape and its ecosystem to understand the impacts of increasing water temperatures.
  2. Environmental Interventions: Design and production of monitoring stations to collect data on water temperature and salinity, along with environmental recovery actions such as cleaning natural spaces and collaborating with NGOs.
  3. Awareness Campaigns: Students will analyze the effects of production and consumption models on water temperature, focusing on spills, plastic consumption, and demographic challenges. They will propose sustainable practices and integrate various literary and audiovisual tools for social awareness.
  4. AI Simulations: Use AI to create alternative future scenarios based on different responses to the climate emergency.
  5. Collaborative Exchanges: Work with the Refuges project of IES Lagoa de Antela and other European schools in the Erasmus+ network to exchange experiences and knowledge.
  6. Renew NEBS Accreditation: Continue the school’s membership in the Network of European Blue Schools.

Key activities include creating marine measurement stations, producing educational and audiovisual materials, and organizing the “Rianxo Azul Festival” to disseminate project outcomes. By raising awareness about climate change risks and promoting sustainable practices, the Fervedoiro project aims to safeguard the natural environment and the livelihoods of Rianxo’s residents.
