Refuxios: Creation of a Blue Bio-Inclusive Refuge Area

The main objective of this project is to raise awareness among the school’s students about the importance of small wetlands as biodiversity hotspots.
The project consists of the creation of a bio-inclusive area with a pond that serves as an engine to increase biodiversity in the area. It will be the students themselves, through the previous work of study and documentation, who will come to the conclusion for themselves about the key role of water and its access when it comes to preserving biodiversity. To do this, we will start with two guidelines: promote biodiversity in the area where we are going to intervene and conceive inclusion beyond the human species by ensuring that the space is friendly for all living beings that inhabit it.
We want the students to intervene in the space by building shelter structures for different species, using environmentally friendly techniques for which we will resort to simple techniques such as the interweaving of materials and traditional basketry.
Some activities of the project are:
– Study of local fauna and the concept of ecosystem.
– Awareness about the importance of biodiversity, and the factors that increase it, emphasizing ponds as biodiversity hotspots and CO2 sinks.
– Previous study, measurement and representation of the space for the preparation of plans and sketches of the project.
– Study of weaving and basketry techniques.
– Elaboration of intervention proposals by students through individual or teamwork. Creation of plans, models and presentations of the various proposals.
– Pooling of proposals and selection and decision-making process.
– Intervention in space creates different shelters for aquatic fauna, birds, reptiles, and humans.
– Carrying out activities with NGOs to raise awareness of the importance of wetlands.
– Exchange of experience between different centres that have or want to create zones with the same characteristics.
– Integration of ours into NEBS and exchange of experiences with other centres.
