Coordinated by:

Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC): Spain

Institute of Marine Sciences-CSIC, which combines leading expertise in water-quality research and services, pioneering platform development, in-situ observations for Earth-observation validation, continuous observation systems, and participatory citizen science, has large experience coordinating European projects.
ICM-CSIC will coordinate the project, and also lead dissemination, exploitation and communication efforts.

Partners

Kaunas University of Technology (KTU): Lithuania

Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is the largest technical university in the Baltic countries. It has a strong symbiosis between social and technological sciences, and provides the project with expertise in research methodology, environmental education, and the creation and transfer of knowledge and innovative technologies for sustainable development. The Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities focuses on merging social sciences, arts and humanities with technologies. Among the main research areas are the social impact of technologies, social innovations, and citizen science.

INOVA+ Innovation Services, S.A.: Portugal

INOVA+ is an SME that specialises in supporting the growth of organisations through innovation, international cooperation, digital transformation and access to funding. With over 20 years of experience, INOVA+ has managed over 50 international innovation projects. As such, INOVA+ is an expert in delivering projects and services at the European level relating to science promotion, community building, and innovation emerging from hybrid collaborations between various actors (researchers, technology and science partners, artists, start-ups, and citizens).

INOVA+ leads the development of the grant funding streams.

Earthwatch Conservation Education and Research Trust: UK

Earthwatch is one of the most-prominent global backers of citizen-science–supported environmental research. For over forty years, Earthwatch has delivered a unique citizen science model to empower individuals, students, teachers, to contribute to critical field-research to understand environments’ responses to change. Earthwatch’s mission is to engage people worldwide in scientific research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. It has centred its activities on research in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems by training and engaging more than 20,000 citizen scientists, including thousands of teachers

Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML): UK

Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) is an independent provider of innovative, strategic and applied research from inland waters to the open ocean. PML has world-class research capacity in global Earth Observation, ecosystem modelling, and marine ecosystem functioning. Its core research programme topics include marine pollution and sustainability, and its research agenda is strongly driven by the UN SDGs and UN Decade of Ocean Science, providing policy support at local to national levels. The aquatic remote sensing and ecosystem modelling groups are among the largest of their kind globally. The Marine Communications team is active across science disciplines to translate research into accessible content.

Ocean Conservation Trust (OCT): UK

Ocean Conservation Trust (OCT) is a European forerunner in connecting academics with the broader public, and bringing marine-environment education to the public through aquatic-environment–related education in the NMA learning programme, which the OCT operates. Their learning programme – designed alongside teachers – couples ocean-literacy principles with the national curriculum and provides a support community and contact database for teachers and educators. OCT is a delivery partner for several relevant projects and initiatives, and it’s a key player in ocean literacy assessment.

OCT will also help reach schools interested in marine education.
