Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. DeFaPlas project seeks to develop awareness among students and the broader community about the detrimental effects of plastic waste and the importance of environmental stewardship. Through hands-on research and community engagement, it aims to foster a sense of responsibility and action towards a healthier planet.
Project Goals:
- Motivate Environmental Action: Engage 200 students, 10 teachers, and 10 parents in solving environmental problems.
- Reduce Plastic Waste: Lower the use of plastic and garbage along the Nemunas riverbank.
- Educate on Microplastics: Ensure that at least 80% of participants understand microplastic pollution.
Activities:
- Pollution Assessment: Determine the macro and microplastic pollution levels in Prienai’s rivers and compare them with the Baltic and Mediterranean Seas.
- Educational Engagement: Prepare and distribute questionnaires about microplastics, organize a summer camp by the Baltic Sea, and take educational trips to research institutions.
- Community Involvement: Conduct workshops, presentations, and a public environmental campaign to raise awareness and promote action.
Expected Outputs:
- Scientific reports and educational materials about microplastics.
- A promotional video highlighting the dangers of microplastics.
- Public dissemination of research findings through conferences, social media, and educational platforms.
This project aims to enhance environmental knowledge and responsibility among students and create lasting change in our community’s approach to plastic use. By integrating research into school curricula and fostering international collaboration, they contribute to building a more sustainable future for our local and global ecosystems.
