In November 2024, at the III ReeducaMar Conference in Segovia, ProBleu participated to the III ReeducaMar Conference, organised with the Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico to help launch the Spanish Network of Blue Schools (Red de Escuelas Azules Española). This initiative unites educators, students, and organizations to promote ocean literacy and sustainability across Spain.
The Spanish Network of Blue Schools aims to foster a lifelong commitment to marine conservation by integrating blue education into the formal curriculum. Its goals include promoting the European Blue Schools Network, connecting Spanish schools with global counterparts, and strengthening collaboration among educational centres.
Regional representatives from across Spain, including Sea Teach (Balearic Islands), ProBleu leader Institut de Ciències del Mar – ICM-CSIC (Catalonia), Oceanogràfic València, and more, will lead the network’s initiatives. Inspirational educators from blue primary and secondary schools IES Bendinat, Colegio Santa Magdalena Sofia, and Col·legi Montserrat presented their projects and were recognised for their contributions.
Also, ProBleu’s Technical Coordinator, Elisabet Bonfill, presented ProBleu’s vision and the European Blue Schools Network (NEBS) at the event, emphasising the importance of collaborative ocean literacy efforts. This new Spanish network is set to inspire schools across Spain, creating a wave of positive change for ocean conservation and education.
