ProBleu’s 4th funding call launches in March, offering new opportunities for schools to implement innovative projects focused on marine and freshwater education, with special attention to citizen science methodologies and platforms. Attention! Educators should note that application guidelines and templates evolve with each call, so it’s essential to stay tuned for updated materials and instructions to prepare proposals effectively. Also, our sister project SHORE, will open its funding call in May 2025.

UN Ocean Decade Event: June 2025 in Nice, France

The UN Ocean Decade will host a major event in June in Nice, bringing global stakeholders together to catalyze ocean literacy efforts, foster collaborations, and drive action to protect our ocean and waters. This event will be a key moment to discuss sustainability, education, and the role of schools in creating a more ocean-literate society. A part of the ProBleu team will contribute to this event; let us know if you are attending and would like to connect!

European Maritime Day: May 21-22, 2025, in Cork, Ireland

European Maritime Day will foster dialogue and collaboration among maritime and educational stakeholders. This event will provide a platform for exchanging ideas on sustainable ocean and water resources management. This event is a new opportunity to connect with sisters and related projects with similar goals for ProBleu, so these are key moments of networking and collaboration!

EMSEA 2025: Ocean Literacy Conference

The European Marine Science Educators Association (EMSEA) will hold its annual conference later in the year. While the exact location is yet to be announced, this event remains a precious time for educators and stakeholders to share insights, find inspiration, tackle challenges, and build partnerships for blue education.

While the details of the EMSEA 2025 Conference are still to be confirmed, EMSEA continues to offer an engaging series of online events and webinars. Don’t miss their upcoming sessions on January 10th and 17th, which promise insightful discussions on ocean literacy and education!

European Blue School Accreditation Periods

Schools across Europe can aim for the prestigious European Blue School certification in 2025. Accreditation is open twice a year:

  • January – May
  • September – December

Eligible projects must be ongoing or already completed before the application period begins. The application process is conducted entirely in English, with monthly reviews from October to December and February to April. Schools achieving accreditation will receive a European Blue School Certificate, recognizing their efforts in fostering water and ocean literacy among students.
