On September 6, the American University of Armenia (AUA) hosted a seminar titled “Empowering Schools through Citizen Science: Strengthening Water and Ocean Literacy in Schools.” The event was a collaborative effort between two EU-funded projects, ProBleu and OTTERS, to introduce Armenian educators to tools and strategies for enhancing water and ocean literacy in schools and encouraging active student participation in water conservation.

Luigi Ceccarioni, the Scientific Coordinator of ProBleu, participated in this seminar, providing valuable insights into connecting Armenian schools with the Network of European Blue Schools. Attendees, including school teachers, administrators, and NGO representatives, discussed how to incorporate citizen science activities into their curricula. Activities like water quality monitoring and mapping local water bodies were highlighted as ways to engage students in understanding and tackling local water issues.

Connecting to the European Blue Schools Network

The seminar also highlighted the opportunity for Armenian schools to join the European Blue Schools Network by implementing hands-on activities related to water conservation. This step aligns Armenian schools with a larger European movement promoting sustainable water management and literacy.

This initiative fosters environmental stewardship among students in Armenia, empowering them to protect water ecosystems and actively contribute to sustainability on a global scale.
