The European Ocean Days brought together key actors working to protect and restore our Ocean and waters. As part of this programme, the Mission Ocean and Waters Forum served as a key space for exchange between policymakers, scientists, educators and civil society.
Representing ProBleu, Ocean Conservation Trust’s Schools Engagement Manager, Stu Higgs, travelled to Brussels to share how the project is helping bring Ocean and Water Literacy into schools across Europe. Over the past three years, the consortium has supported more than 100 schools in developing student-led projects linked to their local environments. These initiatives not only raise awareness but also connect students directly with the Ocean and freshwater systems around them.

A forum focused on scaling impact
The 4th Mission Forum marked an important moment as the Mission moves into its deployment phase. Discussions highlighted the need to scale up existing solutions, from ecosystem restoration to pollution reduction and digital tools such as the Digital Twin of the Ocean.
This focus strongly resonates with the work already carried out by ProBleu and related projects, which are actively building a growing community of schools, educators and stakeholders committed to Ocean Literacy across Europe.

As ProBleu approaches its conclusion in May 2026, its legacy will continue through an open repository of educational resources, freely available to support future Ocean Literacy initiatives.
By strengthening the link between policy, science and education, ProBleu contributes to a broader movement: empowering the next generation to understand, value and protect our Ocean.
