The project “Save the Lake—Save Your Life” (SL-SL) aims to raise environmental awareness and promote sustainable solutions to protect Lake Ohrid. By engaging students and the community, the initiative seeks to create a national movement for the lake’s preservation. The project focuses on educating participants about the threats to Lake Ohrid, fostering a sense of responsibility, and promoting sustainable management practices.
Objectives
- Protect the lake and its environment.
- Improve student understanding of water resources.
- Foster responsibility for protecting water ecosystems.
- Identify dangers of fish extinction in Lake Ohrid.
- Promote hygiene and sustainable management of Lake Ohrid.
- Encourage debates on water management practices.
- Develop awareness campaigns about water conservation.
Activities
- October: Planning phase to prepare students and teachers.
- November: Workshops on “Ecosystem and Sustainable Development of Lake Ohrid.”
- December: Forum on “Protection of Ohrid trout and whiting in Lake Ohrid.”
- January – March: Preparation of the “Protection of Lake Ohrid” manual.
- April: Visits to institutions and environmental actions titled “Be cool, take action.”
- May: Competition “Be green, be smart” focusing on ecology and sustainable development.
- June: Final event, “Youth can and must,” showcasing students’ creative works and promoting ecology.

- Educational materials, including manuals and digital content.

Partners
- Local NGOs like “Enheleus Lihnida.”
- Schools from Ohrid and other countries.
- Local youth centres, companies, and government entities.
- Relevant institutions in Macedonia, the City of Skopje, and ProBleu schools.
The project will integrate its findings and activities into the school curriculum, ensuring continuous environmental education. The manual “Protection of Lake Ohrid” will serve as a lasting resource, promoting ongoing conservation efforts. Workshops and environmental actions will continue to raise awareness and foster community involvement.
